The term calcite aragonitisation (often spelled aragonitation) refers to the polymorphic phase transition between calcite and aragonite, which are two distinct crystal forms of the same chemical compound: calcium carbonate (CaCO₃).Because they share the exact same chemical formula but possess different internal crystal structures, this process is a classic example of solid-state polymorph transformation.
