Pentoxylon Wood is an extremely rare type of petrified wood from an extinct group of ancient seed plants called Pentoxylales. Growing during the Jurassic Period roughly 150 to 175 million years ago, it is famous among fossil collectors because its internal trunk anatomy looks completely different from any tree alive today.When a log is cut sideways (a cross-section), the inside reveals a striking, natural flower petal or starburst pattern.
