Aragonite is a naturally occurring crystal form of calcium carbonate (CaCO₃). It shares the same chemical formula as calcite, but has a distinct orthorhombic crystal structure and is less stable over geological time. Aragonite precipitates primarily in warm, shallow marine environments, hot springs, and caves. Because of its biogenic nature, it is naturally renewable and continuously forms in nature through wave action and chemical processes. It is also highly biological, serving as the main structural component of hard corals and the inner shell layers (nacre) of mollusks, which makes it the foundation of pearls.
