Botryoidal Pyrite Specimen

Item number: 1

Botryoidal pyrite is a highly unique mineral specimen where iron sulfide (pyrite) grows in smooth, rounded clusters that resemble a bunch of grapes. This bubble-like shape is rare for pyrite, which usually forms sharp cubic or pyritohedral crystals.

The word botryoidal comes from a Greek word that means "bunch of grapes." Instead of growing into its typical sharp cubes, the pyrite crystals grow tightly outward from a central point. This creates a spectacular, bubbling metallic surface that catches the light like a druzy cluster. Because of its golden colour and metallic shine, pyrite is famously nicknamed "Fool's Gold".
