Amethyst and Blue Agate 'Cave' geode. 8.9kg
An amethyst and blue agate cave (commonly referred to as an amethyst cathedral or geode church) is a spectacular geological hollow formed inside volcanic rock. It features a sparkling center of purple amethyst crystals entirely framed by thick, multi-layered bands of soft blue or sky-blue agate.
The "Cave" Anatomy: Millions of years ago, cooling gas bubbles in flowing lava created empty pockets underground. Over time, mineral-rich water seeped inside. It slowly deposited silica layers along the edges to build the blue agate frame before finishing with a sparkling internal lining of purple amethyst points.Visual Play: The contrast between the cool, rhythmic blue agate rings and the deep, multi-faceted purple crystals creates a striking natural border. Premium specimens are sliced open and polished along the front rim to make the color bands pop.Physical Profile: Composed entirely of quartz varieties, these caves are highly durable, rating a 7 on the Mohs hardness scale. Large specimens often feature a flat, concrete-reinforced base so they can stand upright on shelves or floors as home centerpieces.
